Long locks I love.

I've decided to grow my hair out. Or rather, I have grown my hair out. Really, I haven't had hair this lengthy since about grade eight, but I still feel like I'm in the middle of this "long" process. Ha!
A few months ago I was contemplating cutting my hair short (pixie cut short!), inspired by none other than than the lovely Audrey Hepburn, but my momma convinced me to try growing it out first.
So, I set out to look for lovely long haired ladies to inspire me, trying to avoid all the picture of Audrey that came my way, and now I'm so happy that I decided to grow out my tresses.

This is my hair now! And I must say that I've come to love it very much.
Thanks mom!

Beautiful Beautiful Rest

This past week has been one of the laziest of my entire life. On Monday I went to the Emergency Room with an extremely sore throat and, four and a half hours later, I found out I had strep throat. So, I've been confined to my room. No work. Barely any contact with the outside world. Just me, my laptop, a pile of books, and a whole lot of tea.
The thing is that I've discovered I hate just wearing, well the best word I can think to use is: schlumpy clothes all the time. I might be sick but I still like to feel... pretty. An oversized t-shirt and old sweatpants are only good for so long.
So I put on my prettiest pair of leggings, a very comfortable lace bra, and a nice flowy top.

Then I went hunting on the internet, browsing all my favorite online stores to find beautiful nightgowns, sweatpants, and other loungewear to dream about. I found some amazing stuff. Now I know what to go shopping for next!

A little bit of lace.

I find it funny that I am so obsessed with lace. When I was young I thought any kind of frill to be incredibly distasteful. Now I can't get enough of it.

My friends laugh at how overly romantic I can be. I tend to be so old-fashioned and dreamy. It's like I'm dancing around in my own little pretty world. And it's true! In everything that I do I try to create a feeling of soft beauty. That old kind of beauty where details are important and everything is made with the utmost care. I think that's the main reason why I find lace so alluring. It is a small detail that adds so much to the simplest of pieces. It gives character and appeal. It creates that wonderful vintage feel and that elegance that I miss. I just adore it!

I definitely need to think about adding a little more lace to my closet.

the scarecrow's brain

I want a straw hat. Desperately. I've been seeing them everywhere lately, and have begun to realize just how very divine they are. I think it's the sunshine. It's got me thinking of soft colours and lovely straw chapeaus. It's all so incredibly... je ne sais quoi.

I just want one.

old time inspiration

This march break has been one that is absolutely full of old movies. I've been having an absolutely wonderful and super relaxing time.

I have never felt more inspired than when I watched Patricia Neal learn of Michael Rennie's true alien identity, and then face an 8 foot robot, all while looking absolutely fabulous in a gorgeous black collared dress.

I think I'm beginning to become quite obsessed with pretty bows and collared shirts and dresses.
I love the elegance of it all, and have been trying my hardest to recreate these looks. Sadly, as I don't really have any real bow ties to wear, I have been improvising, tying skinny scarfs into pretty loopy things, with relative success. I'll try and show you in an outfit post hopefully sometime in the near future.

Anyways, I have found myself hunting down old pictures of these lovely movie stars, and I believe I've been relatively successful. I especially like these ones of Natalie Wood. They make me want to wear vintage bathing suits and nightgowns all the time, no matter how cold it is outside, just because their so gorgeous.

artists use lies to tell the truth

Art inspires me so much. The colour, the texture. It's all so moving and gorgeous. I think it would be a wonderful thing to create an outfit based solely on a painting. In fact, I plan on doing just that.

Little Black Dress(es)

I think I have officially decided upon wearing a black dress to prom. Whenever I wear black I feel so elegant and lovely, and that's exactly how I would want my prom described. So there you go! Black it is. And also vintage, I want to leave high school in a beautiful dress that sets me apart from the rest. In my opinion, vintage is definitely the way to go. It's an excellent way of avoiding any wearing-the-same-dress awkward situations, that's for sure.
I'm definitely planning on going to Toronto soon to look for a dress in some cute little boutiques, but as I can't get down there right now (and I would prefer to go in the spring when it's not absolutely freezing outside!) I've been surfing the internet for some ideas.
My favorite is the Rachel Antonoff Dress. I have absolutely fallen in love with it!
What I really like about all these dresses are the little details on them. The first has that bow on the front that is barely visible but adds just a touch of elegance, the second has the corset-like bust that I just love, and the third has the delicate lace on the front and back. Gorgeous!

Let the Sun Shine

Today is an absolutely gorgeous day, full of sunshine, and I am feeling very springy. So even though it's still winter and will be winter for at least another month I'm going to do a post on some spring dresses that I have absolutely fallen in love with.
Right now I am really loving the loose, relaxed fit over the more structured look. All these dresses seem so lovely, light and fluttery! Plus they are all very simple with small, beautiful, details and can be dressed up or down depending on the accessories used. Paired with a great vintage belt, some flats, and a cute little bag all of these dresses seem perfect for a walk downtown in the spring time.

pashmina love

Not only is this my first post in a very, very long time, but it is also my first outfit post. Hopefully the first of many!
It's unbelievable how busy life is right now! I'm actually babysitting at the moment and am trying to take a couple minutes of rest between making mac and cheese and cleaning up the trail of food and toys the little cutie-pies leave behind.
So this outfit is incredibly basic, and the photo was actually taken about a month ago. However I really just want to talk about the pashmina I'm wearing in it. I must say I wear this scarf as often as I possibly can. I adore the dark forest green colour. There is something so very comforting about it. It's perfect for the winter. Underneath of it is an antique necklace that I got for my birthday this year. I absolutely fell in love with it while window shopping one day and my friend was lovely enough to buy it for me! It's really simple, just a gold chain with little tiny pearls, but it's also super long so I can use it a ton of different ways. I tend to do a lot of layering of scarfs and necklaces so I'm sure both these items will appear in a lot of my future outfit posts.

Prom Dress Shopping

The end of semester 1 is coming up quicker than I can believe. In other words semester 2 is going to be starting any day now. So naturally I've already started wondering and stressing about prom dresses, knowing that day will come sooner than I can imagine. I'm super excited about it, and the desire of my heart is to appear looking incredibly fabulous in a somewhat vintage inspired dress.

I have a design in mind, and if I could I would definitely sew my own dress, but as I can't I'll just have to hope it magically appears before my eyes.
Or I'll just search for months online
and find the dress of
my dreams...

Lately I have just been so drawn to tiers and frills, which is strange because I used to stay as far away from them as humanly possible. I think the reason I have fallen in love with them like I have is because the frills and tiers are used to make a simple statement, instead of overpowering the entire dress. Their not frilly for the sake of being frilly. Their frilly because it improves the design as a whole. Also I just adore the vintage silhouettes of these dresses, their absolutely perfect, and exactly what I'm looking for.
