the scarecrow's brain

I want a straw hat. Desperately. I've been seeing them everywhere lately, and have begun to realize just how very divine they are. I think it's the sunshine. It's got me thinking of soft colours and lovely straw chapeaus. It's all so incredibly... je ne sais quoi.

I just want one.

old time inspiration

This march break has been one that is absolutely full of old movies. I've been having an absolutely wonderful and super relaxing time.

I have never felt more inspired than when I watched Patricia Neal learn of Michael Rennie's true alien identity, and then face an 8 foot robot, all while looking absolutely fabulous in a gorgeous black collared dress.

I think I'm beginning to become quite obsessed with pretty bows and collared shirts and dresses.
I love the elegance of it all, and have been trying my hardest to recreate these looks. Sadly, as I don't really have any real bow ties to wear, I have been improvising, tying skinny scarfs into pretty loopy things, with relative success. I'll try and show you in an outfit post hopefully sometime in the near future.

Anyways, I have found myself hunting down old pictures of these lovely movie stars, and I believe I've been relatively successful. I especially like these ones of Natalie Wood. They make me want to wear vintage bathing suits and nightgowns all the time, no matter how cold it is outside, just because their so gorgeous.

artists use lies to tell the truth

Art inspires me so much. The colour, the texture. It's all so moving and gorgeous. I think it would be a wonderful thing to create an outfit based solely on a painting. In fact, I plan on doing just that.

Little Black Dress(es)

I think I have officially decided upon wearing a black dress to prom. Whenever I wear black I feel so elegant and lovely, and that's exactly how I would want my prom described. So there you go! Black it is. And also vintage, I want to leave high school in a beautiful dress that sets me apart from the rest. In my opinion, vintage is definitely the way to go. It's an excellent way of avoiding any wearing-the-same-dress awkward situations, that's for sure.
I'm definitely planning on going to Toronto soon to look for a dress in some cute little boutiques, but as I can't get down there right now (and I would prefer to go in the spring when it's not absolutely freezing outside!) I've been surfing the internet for some ideas.
My favorite is the Rachel Antonoff Dress. I have absolutely fallen in love with it!
What I really like about all these dresses are the little details on them. The first has that bow on the front that is barely visible but adds just a touch of elegance, the second has the corset-like bust that I just love, and the third has the delicate lace on the front and back. Gorgeous!

Let the Sun Shine

Today is an absolutely gorgeous day, full of sunshine, and I am feeling very springy. So even though it's still winter and will be winter for at least another month I'm going to do a post on some spring dresses that I have absolutely fallen in love with.
Right now I am really loving the loose, relaxed fit over the more structured look. All these dresses seem so lovely, light and fluttery! Plus they are all very simple with small, beautiful, details and can be dressed up or down depending on the accessories used. Paired with a great vintage belt, some flats, and a cute little bag all of these dresses seem perfect for a walk downtown in the spring time.
